Great Southern Rail operates weekly services of The Ghan (Darwin-Alice Springs-Adelaide) and the Indian Pacific (Perth-Adelaide-Sydney) as well as twice weekly services of The Overland (Adelaide-Melbourne).
From 3 August to 26 October 2016, Great Southern Rail will operate 13 departures of its extended Ghan service - The Ghan Expedition. The Ghan Expedition will depart weekly every Wednesday from Darwin to Adelaide with Off Train Excursions in Katherine for Nitmiluk Gorge; Alice Springs (also an upgrade option of a scenic flight of Uluru/Kata Tjuta) and Manguri for the famous opal mining town of Coober Pedy.
